New 'Lost Shores' Mini-Expansion Comes To 'Guild Wars 2'

New content and a new one-time event which promises to alter Tyria forever are coming to Guild Wars two this weekend.

ArenaNet has announced a new mini-expansion coming to Guild Wars 2 this Thursday.

The new "Lost Shores" content incorporates:

A mysterious zone known as the Southsun Cove, accessible to all Guild Wars 2 gold players regardless of level

A complicated new dungeon to conquer referred to as Fractals of the Mists
A new PvP map set within a Kodan dojo known as the Temple of the Silent Storm
New gear to gain, ranging from additional weapons skins to item enhancements to an additional tier of items between Exotic & Legendary which ArenaNet is calling Ascended

Crafting updates such as a brand new resource to harvest and 200 new recipes
A 1-time in-game event that will forever leave its mark on the world of Tyria, beginning Thursday, November 16 & ending Sunday, November 18.

All told, it sounds pretty robust for a gratis expansion. ArenaNet will also be providing a friend referral program at the expansion's launch, allowing Guild Wars 2 players to give buddies a gratis trial between November 15-18.

The event takes place this coming weekend and promises to modify many sectors of the game for fantastic which should be interesting. I also like the fact that we're getting more coastal content, more ships, giant crabs and such.

Here's the trailer:

On the one hand, new content is going to continue to be key to the gw2 gold game's success. The gameplay really grew on me for a while, although I feel as though I have hit something of a plateau where a number of of the events and actions in the game have begun to grow repetitive. I'm also having a difficult time genuinely connecting with any of the characters I have designed which possibly speaks somewhat to the game's lackluster story.

That being stated, it's pretty fantastic that ArenaNet is already releasing its 2nd content update & without doubt bodes well for the game's future.

The big event itself certainly sounds fascinating. It's being mentioned as a "monster invasion" style event, in which all characters will be scaled up to level 80 to be able to be in a position to participate. Here's the schedule of events:

Thursday, November 15, 9:00 a.m. PT - Zero cost trial period begins, update improve is released
Friday, November 16, 12:00 p.m. PT - One-time Lost Shores event begins
Sunday, November 18, 12:00 p.m. PT - Final event stage begins
Sunday, November 18, 10:00 p.m. PT - 1-time event & zero cost trial weekend ends
